Not to mention DJ Phlaaps keeping you sweet in the breaks. We really hope you can come along, it’s only £3.00 on the door and we’ll be giving away FREE BOOKS or make it a SWOOK, bring along your no-longer-wanted books and swap them with our no-longer-wanted books. Create more toot basically.

Other exciting things to mention – check out the 2012 Olympics inspired exhibition @ Beecroft Gallery, Station Road, Westcliff-on-sea. Sundown founder Stuart Bowditch and fellow artist Damien Robinson, both have installations available to visit from 3 Feb – 31st March. There’s a link right here see – http://www.stuartbowditch.co.uk/journey-to-the-podium.html

Fantastic local folk ninjas; The Lucky Strikes, are on tour so go and see ‘em, you won’t be disappointed! Thanks to the people that tuned into Essex Folk on Gateway FM 97.8 (www.gateway978.com), there will be another one in a few weeks time…

February suggestions for you? Well, you should rent Drive and think of it as B-movie style art then watch Trollhunter to cleanse yourself of the violence, and have a good ole chuckle in the process. Re-discover 30 Rock on DVD, pray that Mad Men will be back soon, wonder if you should have been watching Call the Midwife like everyone else, enjoy the flirting between Gregg ‘Mastchef’ Wallace and that contestant who made the lush mango dessert. Sundown isn’t much of a mascot for Valentine’s day but if you dig that kind of poo-hockey then y’know, have a nice time, ah, yeah.

See you at our first show of 2012 on 26th! Stay warm chaps. x

At last, we’ve taken the decorations down (or not even put them up depending on your love/hate stance), re-cycled the cards from Auntie Nance and Uncle Jerry, sweeped up the pine needles and got stabbed through the mitten in the process! All the post-noel jobs have been done, yes, back to normal, onward, strongest foot forward, pro-active minds on charge. We’re ready basically. Ready for what? For blimmin’ 2012 (keep writing 2021) and for, er, SUNDOWN!!

Our first Sundown of the year shall take place on Sunday, February 26th @ The Alex, 7:30pm. We already have some treats in mind for you so keep checking the website for as and when they’re confirmed. After Feb, we’ll be at the Union Chapel on Saturday, April 21st, 12-2pm for our successful collaborative event with the Arctic Circle, known as ‘Daylight Events’. This is a FREE shindig with a refreshments stall that raises money for London homeless charity The Margins Project. It’s always a good’un, don’t miss it. So far we can confirm that we shall have the excellent musical comedian JAY FOREMAN, who has just been touring with DAVE GORMAN. Exciting. So what follows April? Well, we have our regular performance at the Leigh Folk Festival, 22-24th June, where we have a stall on the Saturday in the Library Gardens. This is fun because people bring cakes and ukeleles and 2nd-hand books and stickers and we all just sort of sit in the sunshine, or misguided rain, having a chat and a giggle whilst listening to the folk, drinking fizz in plastic cups. On the Sunday, we’ll be in the Clarendon venue with…so far….MATT BOULTER and THE FANCY DRESS PARTY (more acts, including comedy & poetry TBA).

We will also be performing at another local festival in June but I’m keeping schtum about that until I have more details. In September, we are planning a big, exciting Sundown project which I shall tell you more of soon. I’m being quite mysterious aren’t I? Yes. You like it don’t you? Yes. What am I wearing? That’s not important right now (except a ‘Lund’ style jumper and nothing else!) but as ever, keep checking the website. We’ll have our annual BIG BIRTHDAY BASH in November where we celebrate being 9 years old. Crikey. There’s talk of a Christmas Po’Down in December but it’s far too early to be talking about Christmas 2012 (or, 2021) so we’ll leave that for now.

Yes, a lot going on this year! Please feel free to get in touch with us if you’d like to perform at Sundown, indeed we’re going to be putting on another Open-Mic event @ Rayleigh Library, one evening this year and soon hopefully. So, what have you been reading? I’m reading a book called The Death and the Penguin once recommended to me by Ben Eshmade of www.jointhecircle.net and so far, I quite like it. A book I read this year and loved was – Just Kids by Patti Smith. Oh, it was marvellous. Beautifully written it was. Television wise? I’m still not over The Killing or Forbrydelsen and have series 2 ready and waiting. A friend, who looked a lot like Richard Sandling, introduced me to American comedy series; Community, so I’ve been enjoying that. Movies? I’ve not been that enthralled with a lot of films this year but absolutely LOVED Beginners with EWAN MCGREGOR, it reminded me of Lost in Translation. If you like quaint, stunning, thoughtful indie films then this is your ticket. Anyway, rambling again. Happy New Year to all of you, we look forward to seeing you at a Sundown soon. Our 2012 (21) advice to you? Eat less bread, get a bobble hat, realise that most of life’s unanswered questions are stored in the bobble, don’t let the bobble go a-foot in the 90mph winds, eat less bread.

Au revoir onions.

We were having a ball at the Daylight special at the chapel. We had all-round good egg and fabulous singer/songwriter Matt Boulter (see his ‘pre-chapel excited’ face on the left), the charismatc and charming soul Ed Rome (with Bella on sax and Troop on bass). Waxing lyrical for us was radio head and Peel’s shed man; John Osborne.

This was a fantastic day and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, must just say some thank-you’s and give out some genuine, heartfelt love to those involved so, drum-roll, here it comes….thanks to Ben Eshmade of Arctic Circle, without him these Sundown chapel gigs would not exist and we appreciate each and every single one of them. Do check out all the other Daylight Events and AC gigs including AC Radio on Resonance FM. Go to www.jointhecircle.net

Thanks to all the artists for their amazing performances but also for giving us their time and passion, we were blown away by your talents and professionalism. I urge you all to seek their music and writing out now! Thanks to all the team at Margins Project, you and your smiles and your quiches are just brilliant. Thanks to the chaps at SOA, you know who you are and we love this chapel tradition that we got going on! We fully appreciate your support and belief in us, makes us feel very looked after. Finally, thanks to Dominic Chinea for graphic design, friends that took some of our flyers and promoted, to the Sundown team (Chez, Kel, Troop, Dooz), Time Out for giving us Pick of the Week, all the staff at The Barnsbury pub in Islington and to you, the audience who came along and supported our wee, humble organisation! Actually, additional thanks to Troop aka Chris Davison for he drove, he played bass, he promoted like a mutha, he was super!

Sundown is thankful to know a lot of bloody nice people and you all support who we are and what we do, it means so much and shows like these are a bit special. So, thank-you. We will back at the chapel in 2012, dates TBA, just keep checking the website for details. Coming soon….news of our next Southend show @ The Alex, our Big Birthday Bash on 27th November. Ho yes. It’s going to be a corker with one hell of a raffle. Just want to say one last thanks to industry pals for helping to suggest different replacement acts for the gig, it really did help and I appreciate you all taking the time. Similarly, thanks to all those lovely artists who replied to me.

Right, that’s it, I’ve annoyed myself now with my incessant need to thank everyone all the time.

Hello, beauties.

As part of our 2011 rebrand of Sundown, where we move away from the Sundown Multimedia moniker, we have created a spanking new Facebook fan page called, originally enough, Sundown Arts. There, you can keep up to date with all our events, look at our photos, hear our bleatings and even say hello. How jolly interactive. To ‘like’ us is simple; you just need to go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sundown-Arts/131253286969433 where you click like: one click and you’re in.

If you were previously a member of the Sundown Multimedia group on Facebook, or belonged to the Sundown Multimedia fan page, you will need to move over to the new Sundown Arts page or you will miss out – and nobody wants that. Do they.

We will be using the delicious Sundown Arts logo across all our marketing from now on, which is pretty exciting. Everyone loves a bit of consistent branding.

Bye for now!
